Oil Sands Reclamation
The production of synthetic crude oil from Alberta’s oil sands has created extensive environmental disturbance that must be managed and reclaimed. SHARE conducts dialogues with companies involved in oil sands surface mining on issues related to reclamation of land and tailings, the stream of waste that results from the extraction process. Specifically, we seek improved disclosure on tailings management and land reclamation plans and suggest measures companies could adopt to minimize their environmental footprint.
